A Note From The Artist:

"I have always had a complicated relationship with the traditional image of an angel. It never looked like anyone I knew. It never looked like anyone watching over me. So I started asking myself what an angel actually looks like in the places I come from. What does divine protection look like in a city? What does grace look like when it is moving through struggle? This collection is my answer to those questions. These are the beings I believe are out there. Looking out for us. In our neighborhoods, in our communities, in the spaces where we live and love and survive. They were always here. I just wanted to paint them."  -Linia White

We have been taught what an angel looks like. Robes. Wings. Halos. A figure that exists somewhere far above the mess and struggle of ordinary life.

But what if that image was never the whole truth?

Urban Angels is a collection born from a different belief. That the divine is not distant. That protection, grace, and sacred presence show up in the places the world tends to overlook. In the cities. On the corners. In the everyday moments of Black life where something or someone intervenes and keeps us whole.

These are the angels that actually watch over us. They do not look like the paintings in old cathedrals. They look like this. Moving through color and light and motion with an energy that defies everything that was supposed to hold them down.

This collection is an act of faith. A reimagining of the sacred. And a reminder that divine protection has always existed in our communities, even when the world refused to see it.
