A Note From The Artist:
"I wanted to paint what I see when I look at us. Not the flat, single-toned version the world has tried to reduce us to. I am talking about the real thing. The way Black skin catches light and holds color in ways that still surprise me. The way our style and our culture refuse to be contained by any single palette. I built these portraits out of fragments because that is the truth of who we are. We contain everything. Every hue. Every shade. Every version of beautiful there is." -Linia White
Look closer. What you think is one color is never just one color.
Black skin holds multitudes. Depending on the light, the angle, the moment, it shifts from deep violet to warm amber to cool blue to something that has no name yet. That complexity has never been given enough space in art. Black Life Hues exists to give it that space.
This collection is a study and a celebration. Of the depth of Black skin, the prism of color that lives inside our complexions, and the explosion of color that defines our culture, our fashion, and our way of moving through the world. Each portrait is built from fragments of color, geometric shapes that break apart and come back together, because that is what it means to be Black in America. Multifaceted. Layered. Impossible to reduce to a single tone.
These are not just portraits. They are declarations. Look at us. Really look. There has never been just one hue.
